Through outreach programs for children and families, the Great Plains Family YMCA addresses critical needs of the communities that they serve. Outreach to the Great Plains community is another crucial piece of our mission. By working with area schools, nonprofit agencies, and other community partners, outreach programs are able to extend the scope of the YMCA far beyond the walls of our facilities.

2nd Graders  Learn to Swim
The longevity and number of participants in the annual Learn to Swim Program are 000_0212.jpgtestaments to its value - and need - for the Great Plains Family YMCA community.  For a number of years, the YMCA has provided free swim lessons to 2nd grade students in the Great Plains area, including Weatherford, Hydro-Eakly, and Washita Heights.   In 2007, nearly 200 students were given the opportunity to feel comfortable in the water, learn how to float, learn beginner strokes and receive basic water safety instruction.  Because the YMCA has had the trained personnel and facilities, the outreach program has been highly successful and continues to thrive.

City Pool
The Great Plains Family YMCA has partnered with the City of Weatherford in the management of the City of Weatherford Swimming Pool.  The pool opens Memorial Day and closes on Labor Day, and is open from 1 pm till 7 pm.

City Walking for Wellness
The Great Plains Family YMCA has partnered with the City of Weatherford Parks and Recreation Department, along with other partners in the community, in the Walking for Wellness Program, which is a free program for all ages and all fitness levels.

City Youth Sports
The Great Plains Family YMCA has partnered with the City of Weatherford in the operations of the Youth Baseball and Golf Programs.  Any child can enroll for these programs at the City of Weatherford Parks and Recreation Department.  These programs run through the month of June.

SWOSU Internships
