Financial Development PDF Print E-mail

The following financial development programs have been implemented by the Great Plains Family YMCA in Weatherford, Oklahoma, to help pay for and maintain its facilities and subsidize programs and memberships for the economically disadvantaged in our community:

Annual Membership/Sustaining Campaign - Each year, the YMCA organizes its annual campaign, traditionally held in January.  We seek to add new members to the association and raise funds to meet various needs. Typically, the funds have been used to help retire capital debt, purchase equipment, and facility repairs.  The contributions received through the annual campaign are returned to the kids, the families and the community in numerous ways.

With the community’s generous donations to the Annual Campaign, the YMCA will continue to be an encouraging and strong association for the Great Plains communities.  And with the charitable support of the community, the Y will have the opportunity to expand its programs and projects, which have proven to be an enhancement to many individuals and families in Weatherford and surrounding communities.

Capital Campaign  - Capital campaigns primarily raise funds for the purchase or expansion of facilities.

Campership Program - The YMCA traditionally has a Summer Camp program.   Y friends are asked  to donate to the Campership Program to allow a child to attend one week of camp that because of economic reasons would probably not be able to participate. One week of camp averages $50 per child. The goal of the Campership Program is $2,500, which allows 50 campers one week at YMCA Summer Camp.

Youth Fund Special Events - From time to time, the YMCA has special fundraisers such as benefits, golf tournaments, softball tournaments, Halloween Carnival, Fall Fiesta, etc. These funds are primarily used to subsidize youth memberships and program dues. All kids who have an interest in memberships, camps, or various programs are provided for regardless of their ability to pay.

Giving in Kind - A benefactor may make a donation to the YMCA in the form of a “gift in kind”. This may consist of real estate, stocks, bonds, equipment and supplies, advertising, vehicles, or any other property or benefit. The YMCA board and management will ensure these items are put to their best use to benefit the organization.

Heritage Club - The Board of Directors has established an endowment program called the “Heritage Club”. Friends of the YMCA are asked to join the club by committing to the long-range financial stability of the organization. Funds are held in trust with only the earnings used for operating expenses. Contributions may be in the form of an out-right gift, assets, or written into an individual’s will.

Memorial or Tribute Gifts - Any gift may be designated as a memorial or tribute of a relative or friend. The loss of a loved one or a special event in one's life may provide an opportunity to make one of the most meaningful types of gifts to the YMCA. Choose to honor the memory of a loved one or celebrate the accomplishment of a friend or family member and support the Great Plains Family YMCA with your generous donation.

Planned Giving - A planned gift is a provision for the YMCA in your estate plans -- your will, trusts, insurance, or annuities. Donors contemplating a planned gift are encouraged to seek the advice of their lawyer, accountant and/or financial advisor to ensure that the nature of the gift brings about the greatest benefit from an income tax and estate planning point of view.  To further discuss Planned Giving, contact the YMCA at 580-772-0202 or visit the YMCA at 1400 N.
